I hate my bifocals

Literally hundreds of brands/styles of no-line, or progressive, multifocals have been used since their wide spread introduction in the 1980’s.  The goal of each new technology is to increase the width of “usable” area of the lens, to decrease the amount of peripheral distortion, and to make the lenses easier to use.

So how do you know if the lens you are getting is a good one?  Generally, you get what you pay for – so the “2 pairs for $99” sales you’ll see at your typical big box optical tend to be much older technologies that the retailer will buy at very low prices.  The result is a very low quality lens with more optical distortion and a smaller clear area to work with.  You usually don’t get much of a warranty for the product either.

The rate of change in available technology in the area of contact lenses is light speed.  Huge advances in material technology and lens design have made contact lenses a viable option for just about every patient, with any type of prescription.

I still don't like glasses or contacts, what about LASIK?

Refractive surgery is a viable option for many patients – but the key to a great candidate is motivation.  At Omaha Primary Eye Care we believe that there really isn’t any reason to avoid LASIK because of fear of complication or bad outcome as long as the patient is a good candidate (prescription and ocular health), understands the limitations of LASIK, and is highly motivated to have the procedure.  So how do you know if you are a good candidate?  We’ll tell you – and we’ll help you work with a surgeon that has your best interests in mind.
